LEadership
“People are less likely to change themselves and others based on data and analysis than on compelling experiences.”
— Dr. Edward Deci
The effectiveness of our leadership is dependent on how others experience us. This is to say, leadership is a perception that is influenced by the accumulation of multiple micro experiences. Consistent and quality experiences lead to greater trust, confidence, fulfillment, and performance.
In my experience, people perform their best when they love their jobs and find purpose in their work. This is the job of a good leader – to help people enjoy their jobs and find purpose in their work so they can perform at the highest level they are capable of. A good leader will also help teach, train, and develop so their people stretch their capacity and grow in their careers.
While program management is critically important, people management is even more important if you aren’t planning on executing the company vision and strategy on your own.
This is why I put great emphasis on ensuring my direct reports have positive and productive experiences with me, their team members, and the company at large.
